Minimum Qualifications

Minimum substitute teacher qualifications for the Smart Start training program include

a clear criminal background check
a minimum of 18 years of age
two character references
a minimum of a GED or high school diploma
successful completion of the five day training; and
a commitment to work a minimum of 4 days a month as a substitute teacher

I graduated from the Smart Start Georgia Early Care and Education Program in August of 2007. One month later I was hired by Bright Horizons as a Subsitute. The experience has provided me with a vast amount of knowledge as too what it takes to provide quality child care. I've had a very positive experience and I have worked pretty regularly. However, my daughter started Pre-K this year and I am unable to work within the scheduled hours. I have referred other women that I know to the program, who do not have the restricted hours that I have. I just wanted to provide some sort of feedback on the outcome of participating in the program. Thank you.

Please note that class space is limited and classes fill up quickly. If you are interested in a class that is already full, but has space available in the waitlist, please sign up and send in the required documents by or before the schedule deadline, if spaces are made available only individuals who have submitted their documents will be entered into the class. You will be notified if you are accepted into the class from the waitlist, or to select another class.

Smart Start recommends that you complete the application online, and follow the directions to print out the necessary paperwork to submit to be a candidate for a class. Please be sure to check that you have completed all areas of the application and background consent form including signatures and dates, then fax to our office at (404) 527-3560.
